Having gotten my first taste of driving when I was a teenager, I know the thrill of driving in a harness race and the rush of excitement when you win.

Growing up racing on the fair circuit in southern Illinois, my biggest thrill came when I raced Jano Star on the Illinois Topline Circuit and was crowned the points champion for the year. There were times that I was upset with my father for not letting me drive more. But, now I get it…he loved driving as much as I did.

I understand the life of a driver: the busy season, the unconventional hours; the time away from family. I understand how horsemen get so wrapped up in their own careers that they don’t necessarily take the time to really “manage” their money or to build and nurture a financial plan.
